You can contact us for confirmation of your 3CX licensing requirements, but a few facts will go a long way towards understanding it for yourself.
3CX Licensing explained
3CX licensing is perpetual, unless you have our fully hosted option. In essence you own the software – that is, you have the right to use the software license in perpetuity.
Licensed by number of simultaneous calls
With a couple of exceptions 3CX is licensed based on how many simultaneous calls you need to make or receive, rather than how many people are using the system or how many phone extensions you need.
It may not be obvious how many you need at first, but you can upgrade and add more licenses for additional simultaneous calls as and when needed.
The options are 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128,256, 512 or 1024 simultaneous calls.
Important exceptions to perpetual licensing model
- Fully Hosted 3CX – this is licensed per user on a subscription basis, paid either monthly or annually, rather than a one off payment
- 3CX WebMeeting – this 3CX web-based video conference system is licensed on the number of participants you want to be able to include in your Web meetings
Maintenance included for first year
With all new 3CX perpetual licenses, maintenance is included for the first year. This entitles you to any free updates and downloads of new versions released.
After the first year, 3CX maintenance is renewable on an annual basis, and pricing is based on the edition you have and the number of simultaneous calls you are licensed for.
Options for (perpetual) license upgrades
There are a number of ways that you can upgrade the perpetual licensing for your 3CX software, either singly or in combination:
Upgrades for fully hosted 3CX
If you’ve opted for fully hosted 3CX rather than a perpetual license, you’ll be paying on an monthly or annual subscription basis and:
- Version updates are included at no cost, therefore no maintenance is required
- You can scale up and down as needed, based on the number of users you are paying for
